Hello, my name is Caitlin Haslam

A lot of people ask me Where did I get the passion for makeup and hair? And the truth is I do not know. All the females in my family on my mums’ side has always been preschool teachers or teachers. or a librarian! At a pretty young age I was doing my mums hair just simple things like brushing and combing it one night when I was 3 mum asked me if I wanted to braid her hair so without thinking about it I did a French braid I think that was a proud mummy moment her 3 year old daughter could French braid. Let us not talk about the time I got nannas roller set and stuck all the rollers in my hair… Since then I have always loved it the creative side it was almost like an escape from reality when I would create weird whacky hair styles. After a few many years I started high school and it was rough constantly getting bullied for the way I looked so that night I got home and tried makeup yes I did touch my mums makeup when I was younger but I didn’t think any thing of it if you want me to be honest I didn’t know what any of it was anyways back to my point I really got into it I wanted to change the way I looked so I did foundation and mascara at that point I really liked it even though I still had no idea what I was doing. Years later here I am. Yes I know jumping a bit right makeup and hair just came to me naturally I left school at 15 and did a course I stayed there for 2 years and got rewarded my New Zealand certificate in hair dressing level 1 and 2 I went on to do apprentice work in a salon but then I got let go as the company at the time just couldn’t afford to have me on plus there was also to many people working there at this time I was in between what I wanted to do as I didn’t want to take a whole year off study but I didn’t want to work because of mental health and chronic pain. So I applied for a makeup course only 14 people got into the course a year so my expectations were low I didn’t think I would get in then a letter came in the mail and it was to congratulate me into the course I was so excited finally something I could study that I was genuinely interested and passionate about 2020 has been a great year learning makeup everything about it is amazing.

I’m working towards getting a diploma in makeup plus my new Zealand certificate & international qualification What’s next for me and what I want to do in the future? Well I don’t know I really want to travel with brands and just know more about the industry’s I’m interested in I eventually want to open my own business and make my own hair and makeup line I look forward to seeing where I end up. Over the years I learned to never give up on my hopes and dreams.
